Landscape painter Ric W. Horner and his partner are passionate about nature conservation and the mental health benefits of gardens. The have opening their stunning garden every year as part of the NGS-The National Garden Scheme. Over the duration of 13 years, they have developed a previously neglected plot into an impressive wildlife area, packed full of pollinator-friendly flowers (over 260 different species!), two ponds, romantic walk-ways and a small woodland area.

By getting involved in this way, they are helping to raise money for nursing and health charities through admissions. The NGS’s core beneficiaries include Carer’s Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Parkinson’s UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute. In 2025 alone, the NGS made an annual donation of over £3.8 million.
