Studio visits – buy original paintings directly from the artist

Award winning artist Ric W. Horner has set up a dedicated exhibition space at the front of his studio filled with stunning paintings, prints and greeting cards.

He aims to open his studio every Sunday from 11am – 5pm (or otherwise by appointment only)

Ric first felt inspired to explore the unique light of the north Kent coast around Thanet — one of his early inspirations was the art of the romantic painter JMW Turner (1775-1851) because of his links to Margate and Birchington. He loves Whitstable’s coastline as it is predominantly shallow mud flats, which from a painter’s point of view are a visual feast — even in poor weather they provide as much sky below your feet as above.

Ric says about his work:

“My creative process is about reacting to a place, sky, or atmosphere. I will make sketches and colour notes, plein-air, but I also paint from memory, since I tend to recall the details of importance and enjoy the process of re-invention in the studio. This affords me creative freedom and ideally find a poetic interpretation of the subject.”

Once paid for, large paintings will be sent in bespoke wooden crates for protection and include insurance.
